March 24, 2008 - Podcast Reviews

I listened to another podcast from Comedy4Cast, which can be found through podcastpickle. this episode was titled Episode 135 - The Basically Podcast show - Downstairs Neighbor. This episode is a very bland conversation between Clinton and his downstairs neighbor. Almost every sentence included the word "basically". He discusses how he had to do some research on new media and the rules of podcasting. He also discusses how he was having difficulty downloading a song. He eventually got the song downloaded and was able to play the song. He closes with a request for more wickerbasket commercial files and a Disney Related Promotion. Again I listened to this podcast in my living room on my computer.

I also listened to another podcast I found on podcastpickle. This episode was 063 MM - Dressing Up. The show is called Mr. Manners' Quick and Dirty Tips for a More Polite Life. This show caught my attention because it is very similar to Grammar Girl. The man's tone of voice is similar even to GG. He gave advice on what men and women would wear both historically and currently for black tie/formal events. He also gave advice on Black tie optional events and Creative Black tie events (which I hadn't heard of). As well as advice for cocktail, casual and semi-formal attire. My only critique is that he FLEW through each scenario. But at the same time it was helpful. A surprise at the end of the episode, is I am nearly 100% certain that GG is the voice on his closing. Maybe this shouldn't be surprising...? Nevertheless I was. I listened to this podcast in my living room on my computer.

March 10, 2008 Podcast Reviews

I listened to another podcast from Comedy4Cast, which can be found through podcastpickle. this episode was titled #132: Coffee. It's a man named Clinton discussing coffee drinking. He mentions plenty of times through the podcast that he drinks LOTS of coffee. This podcast actually made me laugh a couple of times...which is a new development from the last podcast I listened to on their website. One thing that made me laugh was that he hates Starbucks because they try to make coffee an "experience" by playing Nora Jones and having you sit and check your email. Clinton says that if you are able to sit and enjoy such tranquility while drinking coffee...than you're not drinking enough of it. I dunno. He was kinda funny today. :) Again I listened to this podcast in my living room on my computer.

I also listened to another podcast from One-Minute How-to, which you can also find on podcastpickle. This episode was Item #226: How-to become Socially Responsible. The show was hosted by George and had a guest on the show Brant Christopher who gave the 60 second talk on becoming socially responsible. He created a social justice army which is a NFP that has members devoted to volunteering 1 hour a week in your community at a soup kitchen or other charity in your community. He promoted his website socialjusticearmy.org which you can visit and enter your zip code and find a list of people/organizations where you live that need your assistance and help. I really liked this episode too. I actually am going to visit Brant's website and see what is available in this area. It was pretty compelling. And definitely proved to me that you can be convinced of something within 60 seconds! I listened to this podcast in my living room on my computer.

Podcasts Thoughts

I subscribed to Comedy4Cast which I found on podcastpickle.com. I then listened to the podcast "cell in a handbasket". I initially chose this podcast because it was described as "comedy in 4 minutes or less", and I typically can laugh very easily. Unfortunately I didn't laugh at all though this podcast. It was just kind of stupid and not funny to me. I did however like that it did last for only 4 minutes!
I also subscribed to One Minute How-to, which I also found on podcastpickle.com. I listened to Item #220: How to track your money--Literally! I chose this podcast because I liked that the point of these podcasts is that they are to only be 1 minute long. Anyone can post, but they only have one minute to post a personal "how-to". However, what I didn't like about this particular podcast, is that it lasted for over 3-minutes, than nearly the entire last minute of the podcast, the the speaker "George" didn't even talk about how to track your money anymore...he was promoting a blog. I was just a bit disappointed with both of these podcasts...because neither were what I expected them to be.
I listened to both podcasts on my computer in my apartment.

Using Blogger

So I have now used both blogger and wordpress to make similar blog posts. I must admit...before posting on either site I was more of a wordpress fan. I was setting that idea on the style/templates wordpress offered. Now that I have posted on each site, I actually prefer blogger. Blogger doesn't have as elaborate or visually pleasing templates, but the ease of posting surpasses wordpress. I was able to upload the picture, video, and link within 5 minutes. I knew exactly where they were going to be placed and didn't have a problem understanding any of it.

Based on this experience, I would trump my recommendation to use wordpress and instead recommend Blogger!
